Location and Directions


Prepared for ENT - A Practical one day course to learn Otolaryngology The course will be held in the Education Centre of the Royal Sunderland Hospital.

This centre has excellent facilities that make this the perfect location for this course.

The morning lectures will be conducted in a 150 person lecture hall, with full video conferencing capability. The afternoon practical stations will be in separate rooms each with audiovisual facilities. There is also a temporal bone lab, with surgical microscopes, bone drills, and camcorders linked with screens in the lab.

All of these features are more than enough to provide an excellent experience for you at the course.

The Royal Sunderland Hospital is located to the west of the city centre and has good road and rail links. Please read below for more information.

Travelling by Road


Access from the south is via the A19(T) or A1(M)

From the north via the A1(T) and A19(T) using the Tyne Tunnel or A1(T), A1231 and A19(T)

From the A19(T) exit onto the A183 heading towards Sunderland city centre. After two miles go straight on at the traffic lights (Chester Road, A183) then turn left just before the pedestrian crossing.

Parking


Normally one can park relatively easily in the side roads around the hospital (particularly just west of the hospital by the Kayll road. If however you want to arrive in style, there is a charge for parking at the hospital.

Travelling by Rail


One can get a train direct from London Kings Cross to Sunderland which takes about 3:30 hours. If you book early enough you can get tickets for £12.15 (£44.50 first class)

Alternatively you can make your way to Newcastle and then take the Metro / underground to Sunderland - Please see the Metro Map.

Prepared for ENT course There is a taxi rank outside Sunderland Railway Station. The hospital is one and a half miles away.

You could, alight at the next stop, Park Lane Interchange, for the local bus service. Several buses stop outside the hospital on Chester Road and Hylton Road. The hospital is one and a quarter miles away.

Closer still Take the Metro service to the stop named 'University'. The bus stop on Chester Road is a short walk away. Several buses stop outside the hospital which is half a mile up Chester Road.

Coming to Sunderland


Sunderland has great links to the rest of the country and can be reached extremely quickly and cheaply. There are direct links from London, Newcastle, York etc.
